PR Courses In The UK
There are about 50 Universities in the UK that offer BA Hons courses in Public Relations. Some of them are focused mostly on PR, others combine it with other subjects, such as journalism or advertising. However, a good PR practitioner needs to have extensive knowledge in different areas of the media. Most PR courses offer the variety of modules that allow students to get to know and explore many media related topics – journalism, advertising, media studies etc.
When choosing the course it is important to remember that PR is about working with the media and getting media attention. This is why it is good to choose a course at a University within big cities, such as London and Manchester, where most newspapers and TV stations are located. Most importantly, students usually want to gain work experience during their studies and there is an abundance of PR agencies to choose from based in cities like London or Manchester.
The Public Relations Consultants’ Association (PRCA) has named eleven ‘elite’ universities that offer PR and communication courses:
The 11 universities are as follows:
Buckinghamshire New University
De Montfort University
University of Greenwich
King’s College London
Leeds Metropolitan University
University of Lincoln
University of the Arts London
Manchester Metropolitan University
University of Westminster
