UK’s PR Representative Bodies
There are two main PR representative bodies in the UK: Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA). Both associations aim to raise standards in public relations as well as represent interests of PR practitioners. Belonging to one of these associations can be useful to a PR student, as both organisations offer a range of interesting events, internships and graduates schemes. You may be able to find a great career opportunity or simply meet interesting PR professionals, which can turn out to be useful contacts in the future!
In terms of student membership, CIPR offers a free membership to CIPR recognised PR courses or £35 (per annual) worth student’s membership to all remaining courses in the UK. PRCA offers similar free of charge student’s membership to all PRCA partner courses but only £15 charge to others.
There is no actual list of CIPR recognised courses available to look at. However, there is a list of PRCA partner universities (PRCA,2012):
University of Westminster
Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh
Manchester Metropolitan University
King’s College London
Leeds Metropolitan University
